Practical Examinations - Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music
Held twice a year, these examinations test the practical skills of players including the playing of set pieces, scales, aural tests and sight reading ability. Whilst the young musicians do not have to enter for any examinations, many do as it gives motivation and inspiration through working from a carefully structured syllabus. The exams are also a way of measuring success and personal progress against internationally recognised benchmarks.
‘Enjoyment through Achievement’ is a phrase often heard in the educational world - earning an Associated Board certificate can certainly be a rewarding experience. If pupils are working hard to make progress with their music they need some way of measuring their success and reassurance that they are on the right road.
